Our ensembles are renowned for exceptional performances that are characterized by accuracy and attention to detail. Our Director Ian Chalk writes all of our unique musical arrangements, which means that our concerts feature scores that are exclusive to YMF. You won't hear our scores anywhere else in the world!
Adult Jazz Ensemble
Our adult education jazz ensemble offers a fantastic opportunity for developing musicians to participate in a large ensemble learning experience. We strive to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for rehearsals and performances, where members develop their musical skills while having fun!
I've been playing tenor saxophone with the York Music Forum Adult Jazz Ensemble for the last 12 years. I was a late learner and didn't start playing until I was well into my forties. The really difficult thing as a late learner or a returning player is to find place to play and people to play with. One of the things I like best about the forum is that it does just that. It's an encouraging and challenging atmosphere, but the thrill of being able to make music and be in the middle of a band is tremendous. I love it, and thanks to the forum and everybody that runs it for giving us the opportunity to do that.

Youth Jazz Ensemble
We are proud that our Youth Jazz Ensemble is recognized as one of the best ensembles of its kind in the country. Our performances showcase a broad range of jazz with groove, accuracy, and energy. If you are Grade 6 standard or above, we invite you to join us be a part of our talented team.
